Johannesburg – Expats in London hoping to see expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema could be disappointed, as he’s been advised by friends not to leave South Africa for now.
According to a report on thesouthafrican.com, a paper for expats in the UK, Malema is set to be a guest of honour at “an exclusive networking event” organised by CMG and Base Africa at London’s Commonwealth Club next Friday night.
The entry fee to the event would have been £20, (about R255), the average going rate in London for lectures or speaking events of this kind.
It was originally reported that he would be there this Friday evening, but couldn’t make it due to a “family emergency”.
But Anda Bici from Friends of the Youth League, which has been organising many of the events Malema has addressed in recent months, said this was untrue.
“He is not going anywhere out of the country. We have advised him to stay in the country and fight the battles here. No trips abroad,” he said.
Bici added that Malema will be in Limpopo on Saturday.
Malema was billed to talk about “his extraordinary life, provide insight into his experiences with the ANC and his thoughts on South Africa’s past, present and future”.
